My counseling approach stems from a belief in the human spirit and an appreciation of the full human experience. I believe we are capable of more than what we may consciously or unconsciously limit ourselves to believe and that we possess the ability to move and grow towards our truest selves. I also believe that life can be filled with immense suffering and immense joy, and that we are tasked with looking within and creating meaning that will carry us through the full spectrum of life experiences.

When working with clients, I utilize an Existential perspective, which emphasizes a focus on the unavoidable conditions of life: isolation, freedom, responsibility, death, and meaning. To address these life conditions, I not only hold space but join clients as they explore immediate and/or ongoing experiences to gain deeper insight into who they are, what may be impeding growth, and where they may create (or find) meaning. In therapy, we can work on building connection to the self as well as others, gaining ownership over your individual life, and creating meaning and purpose that will help ground you when faced with inevitable hardships.

I also incorporate Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, which has an emphasis on awareness and acceptance of thoughts and feelings through meditative and/or mindful practices; this is often more helpful than solely talk therapy. These practices may focus on developing intentional awareness of your breathing, thoughts, body sensations, and more. Although these approaches are the foundation for our work, I’m ultimately flexible in order to best meet your needs and desires.

I welcome people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and faiths, and I’m mindful of how systems may perpetuate discrimination and inequality amongst minority groups. I’m happily committed to creating a safe and affirming space for all of my clients and if desired, therapy can consist of exploring ways to respond to injustice from a place of empowerment. Everyone is deserving of a healing therapeutic experience. It would be an honor to meet you exactly where you are, and to hold warm and open space that allows you to go where you need to go.

Summer’s rate is $80 per 60 minute session (intakes and follow-ups). You may use your HSA/FSA to pay for therapy, and many insurance plans will cover her services. All Bloom therapists offer complementary 10-minute phone consultations to ensure a good therapeutic fit before scheduling.
