My counseling approach is centered on the belief that you are a whole person capable of self-healing through your own wisdom. In session we will not focus solely on what is problematic within your mind and life but also on what is working and ready to grow. This means that I will not divide you into parts but instead treat you as the full physical, emotional, and spiritual being that you are. I believe that deep down you already know what you need; I’m only here to shine the light.
My theoretical counseling orientation is based primarily on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with adjacent tenets rooted in Jungian Analytics and Mindfulness. What this means therapeutically is that oftentimes we increase our own suffering because we struggle to accept negative emotions and life experiences. However, the funny paradox is that until we accept these things as they are, we cannot commit to changing life for the better. A major focus in my counseling room will be helping you come to terms with these difficulties and working with you to discover new and more fulfilling ways of being. We may approach this through deep introspection, concrete goal setting, archetypal exploration, mindfulness meditation or whatever counseling path seems best for your needs. My goal first and foremost is always to honor your expression and assist you.
I believe struggles with self-compassion are at the root of many larger life issues we all experience. Learning to provide care to your wounded child and silence your inner critic through self-love can be a transformative process. I would be honored to be a guide in furthering your journey of self-discovery, as you become more in touch with all that you are.
Finally, I consider it an important part of my mission to advocate for all those experiencing oppression and marginalization. We do not live in a bubble, addressing the dynamics of your external life is just important as understanding the internal. As my client, I will help you fight for your fair and equitable treatment whenever possible.
My passion extends to anyone and everyone who wishes to feel more comfortable in their own skin. I particularly enjoy helping those struggling with motherhood burn-out and self-care, LGBTQ challenges, and religious and childhood trauma.
